I would venture to say that if asked the question, “Do you want a full life?” we would all say yes. Do we really know what we are signing up for when we say yes to that question? The Greek word for “life” in this passage is zóé. It means a real and genuine life, active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed.
Several years ago I realized I wanted that kind of life – full, genuine, active, devoted to God, and blessed. Around that same time I heard someone say, “You can have as much of God as you want.” I was so annoyed at that comment, because I desperately wanted to know God, but I did not know how.
Sometimes we see God in hindsight. I did not recognize it at the time, but God was leading me to the life I wanted. The first step was to see that Jesus is the only way to a full life. No self-help book, no “10 Steps to a Better Me” would do the trick. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).
Jesus came to give you a full, meaningful life. He came to give you peace, joy, freedom, and satisfaction. He chose to leave heaven and come to earth to take your place on the cross. He chose you. He wants you. He loves you. He is ready to give you a full, abundant life. The question is, do you want it? Are you willing to vigorously fight for it?
I have since learned the truth in the comment “You can have as much of God as you want.” Pursuing Jesus and His life of abundance takes equal measures of tenacity and surrender. It takes wholeheartedness, intentionality, and perseverance to run the race God has set before you. It takes patience, an ever-growing trust that God is good, and that He is guiding you. Believe me when I say, it is a fight. The world will tell you are crazy, and the enemy will distract and deceive you every chance he gets. Dear one, allow me to encourage you. Living fully alive is worth the fight.
It is time to put on your big girl pants and declare that your most purposeful, intentional, and epic days are ahead of you. Friend, the best is yet to come!
Reflect & Respond:
1. Have you surrendered your life to Jesus? Are you ready to submit to His ways? Are you willing to let go of control?
2. What excites you most – peace, joy, freedom, or satisfaction? Grab a journal and write down your thoughts. How could peace change your life? How would joy change the lives of those around you? How would freedom make you feel? What might satisfaction look like in your life?
3. Make time for Jesus every day. Read your Bible, pray, journal, worship. Yes, you will need to sacrifice sleep, television, and your phone. This is what tenacity looks like.
Encouragement: Discovering your fully alive life will take time. Be patient. Trust that God is good and that He is leading you to a life that is beyond anything you have ever dreamed.
