Proverbs 16:24 says, “Nothing is more appealing than speaking beautiful, life-giving words. For they release sweetness to our souls and inner healing to our spirits.”
Words of affirmation and encouragement fill our souls. Life-giving words spur us on, give vision, and point to the purpose for which we have been created. They give life to faith, courage, and conviction.
So let’s be people that speak-life. We need to call out the gold that we see in our friends and family members. Let us ask God to see what He sees. Lord, help us to see the unique talents and abilities you have put inside of our loved ones. Show us the Godly character trails they posses and the spiritual gifting’s that you have given them. Help us to encourage our friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors.
Now lets take it a step further and pursue speaking life together. Creating a family motto or mission statement provides focus and intention. It also gives a sense of belonging and camaraderie. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help.” When we know that our family and friends have our back, it gives us the courage to step out in faith and pursue purpose. Not only that, but it creates trust and unity. What a beautiful way to do life together!
Reflect & Respond:
1. In John 5:19 we are told that Jesus can do nothing by himself, that He only does what he sees the Father doing. How much more then do we need the Father’s help! Ask to Him to help you speak life.
2. Take some time to think about how God has created your loved ones. Then tell them what you see. Perhaps vocalizing this kind of affirmation is challenging for you. I get it, but let’s embrace the awkward and do it anyways!
3. Gather with a close friend or two and pray life-giving words over one another. Begin by asking the Father “what is your heart for them?” Then share what He reveals to you. I encourage you to record a voice memo of this conversation on your phone. These times spent together tend to be very powerful and you’ll want to remember the words your friend’s speak.
Encouragement: Perhaps your family and friends have never spoken life over you. Maybe you’ve only ever heard the negatives. Well here is some truth for YOU today: YOU are seen, adored, and highly valued. YOU have been created on purpose, for purpose. YOU are dearly loved.
